“--You Can Call Me Psycho!”

The Psycho-Pirate looms enormous across this November 1986 cover, his unsettling grin and the twin comedy/tragedy masks on his chest radiating an almost magnetic menace — cover pencils by Todd McFarlane and inks by Tony DeZuniga give him a wild, wide-eyed intensity that's hard to shake. Two smaller heroes — one crackling with energy, another wrapped in green — clash against him in the foreground, looking very much like they're fighting for their lives. With Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, and Todd McFarlane on interior duties, Infinity, Inc. #32 is a sharp showcase of mid-'80s DC superhero storytelling at an energetic pitch.
