“The Return of Lucius Keller: Part 2”

This May 2001 issue of DC's Impulse delivers an emotionally charged cover by Ethan Van Sciver and Wayne Faucher, showing Bart Allen in his red-and-white costume recoiling in anguish while a dark-haired young woman is swept away in a burst of pink energy behind him. The desperate caption — "I was too late to save my best friend! TOO LATE!" — and the enormous "NOOOOO!" blazing across the top set a genuinely gut-punch tone that's a far cry from Impulse's usual breezy adventures. Part two of "The Return of Lucius Keller," crafted by Todd DeZago with art by Carlo Barberi and Juan Vlasco, looks to push Bart into some of his most emotionally fraught territory yet.
