There's something wonderfully disarming about this 2011 DC collection's cover: Tommy Monaghan — sunglasses on, cigarette dangling — sits at a bar sharing drinks with a fully costumed Green Lantern, the two of them looking perfectly at home among a crowd of Gotham regulars. John McCrea's linework captures the scene with a dry, lived-in humor that sets the tone for Garth Ennis's street-level storytelling perfectly. Hitman: Local Heroes is a great entry point for anyone who appreciates superhero comics with a distinctly blue-collar Gotham flavor.
