Hawkman #2

Andrew Robinson's painted cover for Hawkman #2 (June 2002) is a striking, moody piece — the winged warrior crouches forward in a dimly lit space, his hawk-mask gleaming gold against deep blues and greens, a massive shadow looming on the wall behind him and a blade at his hip hinting at danger close at hand. The tagline "Shadows Falling!" sets an ominous tone that pairs well with the story title "Into the Sky," suggesting a hero caught between threat and flight. With Geoff Johns and James Robinson co-writing and Rags Morales on interior art, this 2002 series revival was clearly bringing serious creative firepower to Carter Hall's world.
