“Possessions”

The cover of this July 1989 DC title says it all — "Huitzilopochtli Spells Murder!" — as a blue-haired civilian woman, wide-eyed and desperate, thrusts a golden dagger skyward before a looming stone idol, her shirt already soaked in red. Flanking her on either side, the gold-and-white-costumed Dove and the aggressive, snarling Hawk close in, with cover art by Greg Guler and Karl Kesel bringing real urgency to the scene. Written by Barbara and Karl Kesel, "Possessions" looks to pit the peacekeeping duo against something ancient and dangerous — a compelling second issue for fans of this DC series.
