City of Angels" reaches its penultimate chapter in this 1996 installment of DC's Grifter, with cover art by Ryan Benjamin and Tom McWeeney that puts the tension front and center. Grifter stands in the middle, guns blazing and cigarette smoke curling, caught in a three-way standoff with a silver-armored woman brandishing a staff and dagger on his left and a heavily built, dreadlocked fighter pressing a weapon to his head on the right. It's a tightly wound composition that makes part three feel every bit as urgent as the home stretch of a four-part story deserves.
