Green Lantern #73

Gil Kane's cover for this December 1969 issue sets an immediately striking tone: a massive, shadowy dark figure dominates the foreground while a startled Green Lantern hovers in the pink-hazed sky behind it, ring sparking as he recoils with the shocked exclamation, "No! No! Y-You're supposed to be dead!" The sheer scale contrast between the looming entity and Hal Jordan makes for a genuinely unsettling image, and the lurid pink atmosphere gives the whole scene an eerie, otherworldly dread. With a story titled "From Space Ye Came-- And to Space Ye Shall Return!" and the team of Mike Friedrich, Kane, Murphy Anderson, and John Costanza behind it, this is Silver Age DC at its imaginative peak.
