“The New Guardians Chapter Three”

Part of DC's 2010 "Brightest Day" initiative, Green Lantern #55 promises a spectacularly brutal showdown as the cover announces "Green Lantern vs. Lobo" in no uncertain terms. Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy deliver a visceral image of the Main Man himself locked in savage, chain-swinging combat with a red-armored, monstrous figure, while a Green Lantern streaks in from the background ready to join the fray. Geoff Johns and Mahnke's run was consistently one of DC's most ambitious at the time, and this installment — chapter three of "The New Guardians" — looks like it pulls absolutely no punches.
