Green Arrow #18
Green Arrow #18 brings the second chapter of "The Horseman" with a cover by Dan Jurgens and Dick Giordano that crackles with kinetic menace — a skull-faced rider on a chopper tears through a chaotic crowd of armed bikers while Oliver Queen, arrow drawn and clenched between his teeth, clings to the bike in a desperate struggle. The fiery red sky and the sheer density of bodies below give the whole scene a feeling of barely contained mayhem. Mike Grell's mature-readers take on Green Arrow was already one of DC's most grounded titles in 1989, and this cover makes a convincing case for why.
