Green Arrow #0 (1994) is the first appearance of Connor Hawke, Oliver Queen's previously unknown illegitimate son, who would go on to inherit the Green Arrow mantle and carry the title series as its lead character following Oliver's death in issue #101. Arriving as a Zero Hour tie-in, the issue introduced one of the few multiracial heroes in mainstream DC publishing at the time — Connor is half white, one-quarter Black, and one-quarter Korean — making his debut a meaningful step toward broader representation in superhero comics. The creative pairing of Connor as a Zen Buddhist ashram-dweller who idolizes his absent father gave the Green Arrow franchise a quieter, more introspective counterpoint to Oliver Queen's combative liberalism, a contrast that fueled the book's storytelling for the remainder of the series. The issue was written by Kelley Puckett — who would later co-create Cassandra Cain as a second Batgirl — with pencils by veteran DC artist Jim Aparo, inks by Gerry Fernandez, colors by Lee Loughridge, and a cover by Rick Burchett; editors Scott Peterson and Darren Vincenzo oversaw the book under executive editor Jenette Kahn. It was published as part of the line-wide Zero Hour 'Zero Month' initiative, in which DC's ongoing titles each released a #0 issue in October 1994 to establish or reframe their characters' backstories in the aftermath of Dan Jurgens's time-disrupting crossover event. The series' primary ongoing writer at the time was Kevin Dooley, who handled the Zero Hour prelude issue (#90), but Puckett scripted the #0 and the subsequent issues that introduced Connor, before Chuck Dixon took over writing duties and shepherded the Connor Hawke era through the rest of the series' run to #137.
