Gen 13 #34
A sun-drenched beach setting frames this October 1998 issue of Gen 13, with two young women at center — one short-haired and pink-and-purple-highlighted, looking distressed with a hand pressed to her forehead, the other long dark-haired and coolly composed in a green top, holding a small bottle and steadying her companion. Cover pencils by Gary Frank and inks by Cam Smith give the scene a grounded, naturalistic energy that suits the "Overture" story title perfectly — something is clearly about to begin. With Arcudi writing and Frank on interior art, this issue promises the kind of character-driven tension the series does so well.

Warblade and Grifter are visiting Isaiah when a huge monster breaks through the wall and captures their friend. Alex shows up at Ms. Spaulding's house to bring in the girls when, much to Roxy's surprise, her stepmother seems to know him. Their reunion is cut short, however, when they are attacked by Warhawks. Ivana shows up to take over I.O. operations.
