The 2024 Geiger ongoing launched in April of that year through Image Comics under the Ghost Machine imprint — the creator-owned cooperative founded in October 2023 by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, Brad Anderson, and peers including Bryan Hitch, Jason Fabok, and Peter J. Tomasi. Issue #7 represents a notable internal production shift: series co-creator Gary Frank, who had pencilled every prior chapter, stepped back to cover duties for this arc, with Paul Pelletier and inker Andrew Hennessy stepping in on interior art while Brad Anderson continued on colors and Rob Leigh on letters. The Ghost Machine model, under which creators co-own all characters and share in media revenue, gives the Geiger property particular editorial independence, and that infrastructure was already bearing fruit by the time issue #7 shipped — a Paramount Television adaptation had been in development since October 2022, with Johns writing the pilot and serving as showrunner alongside director Justin Simien.
