The 2024 ongoing Geiger series was the direct result of Ghost Machine's formal launch at NYCC 2023, where Johns, Frank, and collaborators announced a creator-owned and collectively operated media company publishing through Image Comics. The ongoing series launched in April 2024, following the 2021 Geiger miniseries and the two-issue Geiger: Ground Zero prequel published in late 2023 as Ghost Machine's inaugural publication. Issue #3, dated June 12, 2024, continued the core Johns/Frank/Anderson creative team that had worked together on DC projects including Doomsday Clock and Batman: Earth One before making Geiger their first original creator-owned hero at Image.
