By setting the action in the fictional 12th-century French city of Vyones, the issue extends the thousand-year gap in Demona's life that the animated series never had the budget or runtime to explore, filling in canonical lore that had existed only in Weisman's publicly documented master plan. The introduction of the warlock Blaise Reynard and his animate stone gargoyles Grimalkin and Satyre brings new characters into a corner of the Gargoyles Universe that has no animated counterpart, meaning this issue represents genuine world-building rather than adaptation. The 'Better Angels' miniseries was announced in February 2025 as the fourth Dynamite Entertainment Gargoyles comic property, following the flagship series, Gargoyles: Dark Ages, and Gargoyles: Quest. The series grew out of a story concept pitched by Frank Paur — co-showrunner of the original 1994–1997 Disney animated series — to Weisman; Weisman shaped it into the five-issue structure with editor Nate Cosby, with SLG-era colorist Robby Bevard brought back to lend visual continuity to the franchise's comic history. Issue #3 itself reached shops on September 10, 2025, after the arc's debut issue had suffered a significant distribution disruption: Gargoyles: Demona #1 missed its May 28, 2025 street date due to problems with Diamond Distribution, ultimately prompting Dynamite to sever ties with Diamond entirely and move its distribution to Lunar Distribution, with the physical #1 finally reaching stores in mid-July 2025.
