In "Present Day," the G.I. Joe team confronts a chilling revelation tied to a mysterious poem by Signore Alighieri, whose work eerily foretells COBRA’s fate. Written by Paul Allor and illustrated by Chris Evenhuis, with colors by Joana Lafuente and letters by Gilberto Lazcano, this issue explores how a literary prophecy unexpectedly shapes the future of the world’s most notorious villainous organization. The cover, by Steve Kurth and Allen Martinez, captures the tension of a story where myth and espionage collide.

Signore Alighieri wrote the poem The Divine Comedy about COBRA. The organization was angry, but the Commander wanted to hear the end of the poem. Alighieri outlined the future of COBRA in the poem, of how it would emerge from the inferno and leave their wicked ways behind, saving the world. The Commander expanded COBRA exponentially as a result. When Alighieri died, the Commander noted that the organization was still in the inferno, and would probably always be.
