“Sideshows of Doom!”

The cover of this June 1978 DC issue drops the entire Freedom Fighters team — Uncle Sam in his star-spangled suit, the shadowy Phantom Lady, the armored Robot Man, and several teammates — onto a collapsing roller coaster as explosions erupt around them, promising a wild ride through "The Sideshows of Doom!" Batwoman and Batgirl are prominently called out as special guest-stars along the bottom, their portraits adding extra appeal to an already packed cover penciled by Rich Buckler and inked by Jack Abel. With Bob Rozakis scripting and Dick Ayers on interior art, this is a lively snapshot of DC's patriotic super-team at full tilt in the late Bronze Age.
