Freedom Fighters #13

The cover of this April 1978 DC issue tells a tense story all by itself: a woman in green and a figure in pink and red scramble in the foreground while a speech bubble warns, "They're NOT the Freedom Fighters any more — and they're out to kill us!" Charging down at them is a snarling yellow-costumed powerhouse, flanked by a caped bruiser, a helmeted white-suited figure, and the patriarchal Uncle Sam himself, all rendered with muscular energy by cover penciler Rich Buckler and inker Jack Abel. With interior art by Dick Ayers and a story from Bob Rozakis promising the origin and secrets of the Black Condor, issue #13 of Freedom Fighters delivers a team-in-turmoil setup that's hard to put back on the rack.
