“The Grounded Penguin”

Walter Lantz's perpetually cold little penguin gets his own Dell spotlight in this 1956 ten-cent charmer. The cover by Fred Abranz shows Chilly Willy — red cap, crossed flippers, orange feet — perched right on top of a roaring pot-bellied stove as snow falls around him, with a cozy igloo visible in the snowy background. It's a perfectly cheerful image that captures everything endearing about the character: even sitting on a heat source, this little penguin looks like he could use just a bit more warmth.
