Dell's Four Color series brought the coonskin-cap craze of 1955 straight to the comics rack with this tie-in to Walt Disney's wildly popular Davy Crockett. The cover features a photo of Fess Parker as Davy Crockett — rifle in hand, buckskins on, and the unmistakable facade of the Alamo rising behind him against a golden sky — capturing the frontier spirit of the era perfectly. With interior art by John Ushler and a story by Robert Turner and Paul S. Newman, this is a fine snapshot of one of the most talked-about pop-culture moments of 1955.
