In the dusty frontier town of Grande Mesa, Johnny arrives under cover of night to visit his old friend Jim Murdock, the theatre manager—only to wake in a doctor’s office after a violent robbery leaves Jim dead and Johnny unconscious. With the town sheriff and Jim’s son, Tom Murdock, by his side, Johnny sets out at dawn to follow the trail of the killers, chasing shadows across the rugged landscape.
In "The Avenging Avalanche," Johnny steps in during a stagecoach robbery only to see the guard shot, setting off a tense journey when he and driver Spike Nash take the wounded man to a nearby Navajo village. When the bandits strike again, killing a Navajo, Johnny follows their trail into a remote box canyon, where the danger escalates.
