The story, illustrated by Harvey Eisenberg, blends whimsy and adventure with a twist that’s as unexpected as the journey itself.
In "The Floating House," Charlie and Mortimer find themselves adrift when a sudden flood lifts Mortimer’s home and carries it out to sea. After dodging a shark and a whale, the house washes ashore on a tropical island where elephants haul it inland—only to be captured by the island’s inhabitants, whom they fear are cannibals. When the King reveals the house won a contest for most original design, he rewards Mortimer with a bowl of diamonds and sends them home in his private plane.
