“Apple and Oranges”

"Apple and Oranges" is a delightfully whimsical time-travel adventure from Four Color #530 (1954), where Professor X, Beany, and Cecil set off to find the lost treasure of 17th-century pirate Captain Kidder on the island of Pogo Pogo. When their ship, the Leakin' Lena, veers off course into the mysterious waters of Latitude Q, they’re flung back in time—leading to a bizarre encounter with the pirate himself and a strange exchange involving a Miner Bird and Beany’s calendar watch. Jack Bradbury’s expressive art brings the whole zany journey to life, capturing both the absurdity and charm of this early comic tale.

Professor X reconstructs a map to the buried treasure of 17th Century pirate Captain Kidder. The treasure is buried on the Pacific island of Pogo Pogo. On the way there, the Leakin' Lena is diverted by Dishonest John to cross the International Date Line in the mysterious waters of Latitude Q and is thrown back into time into the 17th Century. There Beany and Cecil meet Captain Kidder, who trades a Miner Bird (who can spot gold mines) for Beany's calendar watch. Cecil pulls the Lena into a whirlpool that sends them back into the present.
