“Basement Barbeque”

In "Basement Barbeque," a 1953 Four Color issue, the Scouts hear Mr. Mead’s tall tale of Captain Booty, a 17th-century pirate said to have hidden treasure in a local cave—and still lurking there. When groceries vanish from Mr. Mead’s store, the Scouts follow a hunch to the very same haunted cave, where they suspect the culprit might be the mysterious Hobo Joe. Drawn and inked by Don Gunn, this whimsical mystery blends folklore and sleuthing in a classic early comic adventure.
