“Fishing in the City Aquarium”

In "Fishing in the City Aquarium," a whimsical 1949 adventure from Four Color #219, Swee'pea is crowned emperor of the tiny nation of Plutonia—largely because he fits in the throne—only to seize power with one goal: ice cream. Written and illustrated by Bud Sagendorf, the story follows his increasingly absurd reign as he declares ice cream the sole food of the realm, leading to a nation-wide financial crisis. The cover by Bud Sagendorf captures the zany tone, as the country’s leaders scramble to find a way to end the sweet tyranny.
