“Upward Downfall”

Based on the Hanna-Barbera characters, this 1961 Dell issue brings Pixie and Dixie to comics in fine form — the cover by Pete Alvarado shows the two blue mice perched atop a large book, one wielding a fishing rod and the other a butterfly net, both aimed at a tempting wedge of cheese sitting squarely on a mousetrap below. It's a clever, charming setup that captures the resourceful spirit of the TV duo perfectly, and the bright red background makes the whole scene pop right off the newsstand.
