Four Color #1243

This Dell mystery comic from 1961 sets an immediately atmospheric tone with George Wilson's cover painting: a caped, masked figure looms menacingly in a darkened graveyard, clutching a small doll while robed torch-bearers flank a stone angel monument — and two frightened onlookers crouch among the headstones in the foreground. The titles "The Witch's Victim" and "The Missing Man" promise exactly the kind of eerie, puzzle-driven suspense that made Ellery Queen a beloved detective franchise. Interior art by Mike Sekowsky, inked by George Roussos and Mike Peppe, brings the same sharp storytelling sensibility to the stories within.
