“The Movies”

This 1961 Dell entry in the long-running Four Color series brings Spanky, Alfalfa, and the rest of the Little Rascals to life in four promised "laugh-filled adventures" — "Trouble on the High Seas," "The Train Trip," "Grumble's Nightmare," and "The Hermit's Cave." David Gantz's cover art captures the gang's irrepressible spirit perfectly: a heavyset Spanky gleefully hauls an upturned umbrella brimming with water and wriggling fish, while Alfalfa grins alongside him and a third kid perches on the rim with a fishing rod, the whole scene radiating the cheerful mischief that made these characters so beloved. At just 15 cents, this issue packs a generous helping of comic fun from Hal Roach Studios' enduring cast of kid characters.
