“Señor Sawbones”

"Señor Sawbones" is a standout tale from Four Color #1160, a 1961 Dell comic that captures the quiet drama of small-town resilience. When a rider breaks his leg, Rowdy brings him to the reluctant new doctor, Raul Sanchez, whose skill earns him begrudging trust—especially after a tornado threatens the town and the doctor proves his worth in the aftermath. Written by Eric Freiwald and Robert Schaefer and illustrated with crisp detail by Dan Spiegle, the story’s quiet moments carry weight, with the cover by Dan Spiegle perfectly capturing the tension of a storm on the horizon.

When one of the riders breaks his leg in a fall, Rowdy takes him to the nearest town. There he finds the townspeople have little faith in Raul Sanchez, the town's new doctor. After the man's leg is set, Favor rides in with the news that a tornado is approaching the town. In the aftermath of the storm, the townspeople gain respect for the new doctor.
