“Fear Itself 7: Thor's Day”

The grand finale of Marvel's 2011 event series arrives with Fear Itself Book Seven, written by Matt Fraction with interior art by Stuart Immonen, Wade von Grawbadger, and Laura Martin. Steve McNiven and Mark Morales deliver a striking cover split into two tense confrontations: at the top, a red-faced armored warrior wielding a massive staff clashes head-on with Captain America, both gripping the weapon in a fierce struggle; below the title, a small but resolute armored figure — sword raised — faces down an enormous, fanged serpent coiling in from the shadows. It's a fitting send-off image for a series built around impossible odds, and this seventh and final chapter promises the kind of culminating tension that "Thor's Day" suggests in its very title.

Iron Man distributes weapons and armor he created in Asgard to the heroes of Earth so they can stand against the Serpent and his forces. Just as the Serpent is about to reach the World Tree and trigger Odin's invasion of Earth, Thor kills him with the sword Ragnarok, losing his own life in the process. Odin transports his fallen son back to Asgard and closes the rainbow bridge behind him, exiling the rest of the Asgardians on Earth. Tony gives Steve back his shield which was repaired in the forges of Asgard. Everyone gets to work repairing the massive amounts of damage the Serpent caused.
