“Behold! A Distant Star!”

Two massive, armored alien figures loom over Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Girl, who appear dangerously outgunned on what looks like an alien world, while the Thing stands ready in the foreground — Jack Kirby and Chic Stone delivering that particular mid-1960s sense of cosmic scale with tremendous confidence. The story title "Behold! A Distant Star!" promises the FF are a very long way from home, and the cover's purple-and-green alien landscape makes good on that promise immediately. Stan Lee and Kirby were firing on all cylinders in 1965, and this issue's cover alone captures why Marvel's flagship title earned its bold claim of being "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine.
