“By Reed ... Betrayed!”

In "By Reed ... Betrayed!", the Fantastic Four face a chilling crisis when Sue Storm senses something deeply wrong with her husband—Reed Richards has been replaced by a malevolent doppelgänger. As Earth's heroes gather at Four Freedoms Plaza, tensions explode when the Thing battles his own evil twin, aided only by the Puppet Master, and the summit descends into chaos as Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man are revealed as impostors. Written by Tom DeFalco and illustrated by Paul Ryan, with inks by Ivy and Ray Kryssing, colors by Gina Going, and letters by Jon Babcock, the issue's cover by Paul Ryan captures the moment of shocking betrayal.

As Mr. Fantastic calls all of earth's heroes together to Four Freedoms Plaza for a meeting, Sue realizes that there is something terribly wrong with her husband (he was replaced by an evil doppelganger last issue). After a tense meeting with Shary, the Thing battles his own evil double and triumphs only with a little help from the Puppet Master. At the superhero summit, a battle breaks out as Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man are revealed as impostors. Reed detonates a Gamma Bomb in order to kill everyone.
