“Dark Dreams”

A young blond child — pleading "Unca Ben! Wake up! Help me! Unca Ben!!" — is in desperate trouble inside a New York City taxi, grabbed by a menacing, sneering figure while the orange rocky fist of a snoozing Thing (marked with a "ZZZZZZzz" bubble) lies uselessly nearby. John Buscema and Sal Buscema frame the scene with an unnerving intimacy, putting readers right in the cab as the tension crackles. Roger Stern, Tom DeFalco, and the Buscema brothers bring their considerable talents together for this 1987 entry in Marvel's flagship title — and that cover alone makes it very hard to put down.
