“Cry, the Bedeviled Planet!”

The entire Fantastic Four assembles in crisis on this July 1976 cover — the Thing locked in explosive combat with the armored Destroyer, Sue Storm recoiling in alarm, the Human Torch ablaze, and Mr. Fantastic stretching into the fray against a backdrop of a crumbling planet. Jack Kirby's pencils and Joe Sinnott's inks give the confrontation a real sense of cosmic weight, with the cover copy asking whether the team will even survive their 200-million-mile journey to face this foe. "Cry, the Bedeviled Planet!" promises the FF pushed to their limits in deep space, and the tension leaping off this cover makes it easy to believe it.
