“Sins of the Father”

The dimension-hopping team at the heart of Marvel's multiverse saga takes center stage in Exiles #2 (2001), subtitled "The Sacrifice." Mike McKone's cover pencils (inked by Mark McKenna) pack the composition with the full roster — a winged figure, a cloaked skull-faced character, a central woman in a gold-and-white costume, a blue-skinned Nightcrawler-like figure, and several other mutant heroes pressed together in an urgent, chain-bound struggle that suggests the stakes are already sky-high by issue two. Writer Judd Winick and artist Mike McKone are crafting a team book with real tension, and this densely layered cover promises that "Sins of the Father" will put these interdimensional Exiles through their paces.

The Exiles turn to Forge to find a way to defeat the evil Charles Xavier and his super powered allies. The team realizes that they were meant to release Magneto rather than Xavier and Magnus gives his life accomplishing this. Sunfire arrives as a replacement for Magnus.
