About this Collection

Essential Avengers, Vol. 3 collects a substantial run of late-1960s and early-1970s Avengers stories in Marvel's black-and-white Essential format. This volume features the debut of the Vision, the introduction of the Black Panther as a full-time member, and the expansion of Hank Pym's identities from Goliath to Yellowjacket. Key storylines include the return of the Puppet Master and Mad Thinker, the first appearance of the Swordsman's tragic arc, and the team's confrontations with Egghead and the Black Widow before her turn to heroism.

In "Magneto Walks the Earth," Quicksilver’s desperate bid for freedom sets the Avengers on a collision course with a new Black Knight—Dane Whitman—whose past shadows and uncertain allegiance leave the team poised to strike. As the legendary hero confronts the enigmatic absence of the gods on Olympus, the fate of the Promethean Flame hangs in the balance. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated with gritty precision by George Tuska, with lettering by Artie Simek, the cover by Stuart Immonen and Wade von Grawbadger captures the storm brewing across both Earth and myth.
