Empyre: X-Men #3

The penultimate chapter of this 2020 Empyre tie-in miniseries arrives with a cover by Eduard Petrovich that's genuinely hard to look away from — a triptych of diagonal panels putting Cyclops, Polaris, Magik, Colossus, Magneto, and Cannonball front and center, flanked on one side by the eerie plant-creature Cotati and on the other by a horde of snarling, undead threats. Writers Ed Brisson, Vita Ayala, and Zeb Wells team with artist Andrea Broccardo and colorist Nolan Woodard to deliver "Staff Infection," a title that promises the X-Men are dealing with something far more dangerous than a routine skirmish. With mutantkind pressed on multiple fronts and the Empyre event in full swing, this issue looks like exactly the kind of sprawling, chaotic battle that makes crossover comics so energizing.
