Doom Patrol #20

The "SELL OUT!" cover of Doom Patrol #20 (July 2003) takes a wryly playful approach, presenting three of the team's members — a bandage-wrapped figure, Robotman, and a young girl — as chibi-style collector figurines standing on display pedestals, while a larger Robotman looms overhead as if fresh off the assembly line. It's a clever, self-aware image that pokes fun at superhero merchandise culture, rendered with charm and personality by cover artist Tan Eng Huat. Writer John Arcudi and his creative team were clearly having fun with the Doom Patrol's offbeat identity at this point in the series.
