Doctor Strange #30

Frank Brunner's cover for this 1978 issue sets an urgent, atmospheric tone: Doctor Strange — red-caped and gold-amulet-gleaming — fights off a mass of writhing green tentacles while a wide-eyed woman in purple clings to a street lamp behind him, a massive yellow moon looming ominously in the background. The tagline "…A Gathering of Fear!" perfectly captures the sense of dread closing in from all sides. Roger Stern scripts the interior with art by Tom Sutton, making this a solid entry in Marvel's mystical corner of 1978.
