Doctor Fate #2
In "The Rising Tide," Khalid Nassour, newly wielding the mantle of Doctor Fate, uses his burgeoning powers to pull his father from a fatal accident—only to face the sobering possibility that his father may never see again. After a brief but intense lesson from the ancient spirit Nabu, who speaks through the Helm of Thoth, Khalid sets out to confront the pack of dogs responsible for the crash, only to be wounded and swiftly healed in a moment that defies explanation. Written by Paul Levitz and brought to life with striking detail by Sonny Liew—both on interior art and cover—and colored by Lee Loughridge, this 2015 issue captures the weight of legacy and the first tremors of a hero’s journey.
