Detective Comics #32

Part three of "Icarus" arrives in this August 2014 New 52 installment, with Francis Manapul's cover depicting a strained, grimacing Batman caught in the grip of a massive red tentacle — his armored fist clenched as vivid splashes of crimson and yellow surround him. The composition is as much fine art as superhero cover, blending Manapul's painterly sensibility with a palpable sense of peril. With both writing and art duties shared by Manapul and Brian Buccellato, Detective Comics #32 showcases one of the more creatively unified teams working in superhero comics that year.
