“The Quick and the Dead and the Really Dead”

Part of Marvel NOW!'s reinvigorated Deadpool run written by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan, this 2013 issue drops the Merc with a Mouth into a packed wrestling arena for what looks like a deeply unconventional bout. Cover artist Geof Darrow renders a wonderfully chaotic ringside scene: Deadpool unleashing a kick squarely at a zombie in a top hat and black suit, a bewildered referee caught in the middle, and a ring-card woman holding up a "201" sign for the roaring crowd. Colorist Val Staples brings the whole spectacle to vivid life, and if this cover is any indication, "The Quick and the Dead and the Really Dead" delivers exactly the unhinged fun this creative team promised.
