“Le rituel de Dhonu”

In "Le rituel de Dhonu," Arak finds himself caught in a city gripped by terror as a mysterious Stalker prowls the streets of Thessalonika, striking at night. Rescued by a barmaid and her father, he learns they’ve conjured the creature—revealed to be a hydra—to fight back against the occupying Byzantine soldiers. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Adrian Gonzales with inks by Alfredo Alcala, this issue blends ancient mysticism with gritty survival, all under Jan Duursema’s striking cover.

Something is stalking the streets of Thessalonika, killing anyone caught outside at night. In this panicky environment, someone as different as Arak is bound to attract unwanted attention. During a brawl with Byzantine soldiers, Arak is rendered unconscious and left outside for the invisible Stalker. But, he's rescued by a barmaid and her father, who reveal that they (through magical means) are the cause of the Stalker's existence; they plan to use it to drive the Byzantines from their city. However, when the Stalker (actually a hydra) attacks Satyricus, Arak manages to destroy it with fire.
