Marvel's "The Magazine That Dares to Be Dumb" is in fine form with this November 1977 issue, sporting a Bob Larkin cover that riffs on the box-office phenomenon Rocky — a muscular fighter in gym shorts casually reads a newspaper headline boasting "Rocky Grosses 100 Mill" while using a hanging side of USDA-stamped beef as a punching bag, sending a cartoonish masked villain flying off his barstool in comic agony. Inside, writer Sara Arthur and artist Kent Gamble deliver "Rooky," their own comedic spin on the smash hit. At just 60 cents, this is a cheerfully shameless slice of late-'70s pop-culture parody at its most gleefully ridiculous.
