The volume collects the five-issue miniseries, written by John Rozum with art by various contributors, exploring the pair's unique light-and-darkness powers and their ongoing battle against crime and corruption.
In "Cloak and Dagger!", the duo faces their inner darkness as Cloak’s hunger spirals unchecked without Dagger’s light to balance him, while Dagger, captured by mobster Uncle Saldino, struggles to control her own power. Written by Bill Mantlo and brought to life by Kerry Gammill’s dynamic art, with inks by George Freeman and colors by Glynis Wein, this 2017 issue captures the fragile equilibrium between light and shadow. The cover, by Rick Leonardi and Terry Austin, hints at the tension between their opposing forces.
In "Cloak and Dagger!", Spider-Man intercepts the duo as they pursue Simon Marshall, a former pharmacist now trafficking drugs. When Dagger kills Marshall, the confrontation escalates, leading to a tense standoff on Ellis Island. There, Cloak and Dagger reveal they were among the runaway kids experimented on by the mob—and the only ones to survive. As the truth about their origins unfolds, Cloak takes decisive action against the mob members responsible.
In "The Great Cloak & Dagger Hunt!", Silvermane—reborn with a cybernetic body after a brutal encounter with Cloak & Dagger—seeks revenge with newfound power, turning the city into a battleground. As the vigilantes evade his relentless pursuit, Spider-Man is drawn into the chaos, while Peter Parker’s friend Debra Whitman begins to question her own mind.
In "Stalkers in the Shadows," Cloak and Dagger track the Punisher through the city’s underbelly, drawn into a deadly game of cat and mouse as he targets the Kingpin. With Spider-Man and Felicia Hardy’s fate still uncertain, the duo must navigate shadows where loyalty is tested and every move could be a trap.
In "The Hunters and the Hunted!", Spider-Man teams up with a group of New Mutants to rescue two of their own, captured by the Mob—whose twisted experiments with designer drugs aim to replicate the fateful event that gave Cloak and Dagger their powers. With danger brewing in the shadows and the line between hunter and hunted blurring, the team must navigate a high-stakes game of survival where every move could be their last.
In "The Dagger at the End of the Tunnel!", Dagger becomes the target of a relentless pursuit when a robot-like Silvermane seeks the fragment of his soul trapped within her. As both allies and enemies close in, Jo must navigate a high-stakes race through shadowed alleys and hidden tunnels, with the truth of her connection to Silvermane hanging in the balance.
In "Chapter I Such Sweet Sorrow..." from Cloak and Dagger: Shadows and Light, the duo confronts a low-level drug dealer, their shared mission a reminder of the weight they carry. After the fight, Dagger steps away to wander the city, seeking a moment of light amid the shadows—leaving Cloak to grapple with the silence that follows.
In "Chapter III Dagger's Light," Cloak battles the shadows within and without, his hunger intensifying as he fights drug pushers alone—his connection to Dagger’s light now a distant memory. When Dagger is taken by Jack and brought to mobster Uncle Saldino, she awakens to a storm of power that threatens to consume her. The two, separated by distance and darkness, find each other again through the faint glow of her light, their bond rekindling in a moment of shared struggle.
In "Shadowman," Jo and her friends find themselves drawn into a web of secrets when Wolfsbane and Sunspot reveal unexpected connections to Cloak and Dagger’s powers—just as Mirage and Cannonball follow them into the heart of New York City. With Selene and Emmanuel DaCosta now part of the Hellfire Club and Aletys bringing Magneto to his hidden island, the shadows grow deeper and the lines between ally and enemy blur.
In "The Hollow Heart," Cloak and Dagger step in as unlikely allies when Sunspot and Wolfsbane find themselves caught in a crisis that tests their strength and trust. As Magik attempts to undo the damage with magic and Wolfsbane risks everything to save Colossus, the duo’s presence brings a new kind of light—and shadow—to the struggle.
In "The Only Thing to Fear...", Cloak and Dagger reunite with Professor X, who enlists Magik’s help to journey to Limbo. There, with Rogue’s aid, they reclaim their powers from Sunspot and Wolfsbane, reigniting their mission to fight injustice.
