Featuring reprints of classic tales, it showcases the eerie, unregulated creativity that flourished before the Comics Code Authority tightened content restrictions. The volume is part of IDW and Yoe Books' series spotlighting specific monster archetypes from that golden age of frightful funnies.
"The Mummy!" is a chilling tale from Classic Monsters of Pre-Code Horror Comics: Mummies, where the ancient mummy of King Ramzu awakens with a singular, desperate longing—to be reunited with his beloved Queen Oaana in death. Drawn from the legendary Iger Shop art team, this haunting story follows Ramzu’s journey through the Egyptian jungle, evading lions and a persistent police officer, as he seeks final communion with his lost love. The tale concludes in quiet tragedy, witnessed by a skeptical girl reporter who can only whisper, “Can’t print the story... who would believe me?” — with Tony Mortellaro’s evocative cover capturing the eerie, timeless dread of the tale.
