Chew: The Omnivore Edition #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis oversized hardcover kicks off the acclaimed series by John Layman and Rob Guillory, collecting the first two story arcs—'Taster's Choice' and 'International Flavor'—along with bonus material. It follows FDA agent Tony Chu, a cibopathic detective who gets psychic impressions from anything he eats, as he investigates bizarre food-related crimes in a world where chicken is illegal. The Omnivore Edition format presents the art in a larger, more detailed format than the standard issues or trade paperbacks.
In "Taster's Choice, 1 of 5," written by John Layman and illustrated by Rob Guillory, the bizarre world of Chew opens with Tony, a man with a unique talent for tasting clues, imprisoned on suspicion of murder. After biting a cellmate and leading Chief Kulolo to a buried body, Tony uses his uncanny sense of taste to uncover a hidden rooster fighting ring—and a missing chicken named Poyo. With the Chief's reluctant permission, Tony ventures into the morgue to sample the remains of the victim, Lin Sae Woo, marking his first taste of the mysterious Gallsaberry. The cover by Rob Guillory captures the series' offbeat, visceral tone.

The Yamapalu authorities jail Tony under suspicion that he killed Lin Sae Woo. After biting one of his cell mates, Tony shows Chief Kulolo the location of the body the inmate buried. After finding and tasting the dead body, Tony identifies the location of a rooster fighting ring on the north side of Yamapalu. Tony and the Chief raid the gangster's lair and recover Poyo, the fighting chicken. As a "favor" to Tony, the Chief lets him into the morgue so he can "investigate" the remains of Lin Sae Woo. Tony has his first taste of Gallsaberry.
