“Taster's Choice, 1 of 5”

In "Taster's Choice, 1 of 5," writer John Layman and artist Rob Guillory kick off a wildly unique crime thriller where taste isn't just a sense—it's a weapon. When two F.D.A. agents investigate a shady chicken meat operation, a gruesome discovery turns a routine inspection into a bloody showdown, leaving one agent dead and the other facing termination—only to be recruited by a mysterious new division. The cover by Rob Guillory captures the issue’s unsettling blend of dark humor and culinary dread.

Tony and John stake out a suspected distribution point for illegal chicken meat. When Tony and John sample the illegal meals, Tony learns that one of the cooks is a serial killer. The killer throws a cleaver at John's face and then cuts his own throat rather than allow Tony to arrest him. Due to the odd circumstances in which Tony comes up with the evidence, the police department wants to fire him, but Mason Savoy announces that Tony has been recruited and hired by the F.D.A.
