Cerebus #95

Issue #95 of Aardvark-Vanaheim's long-running series delivers a striking close-up of Cerebus himself, the gray aardvark's scowling face filling nearly the entire cover as he grips what appears to be a rifle — an orange hardhat casting a shadow over his intensely brooding expression. Dave Sim and Gerhard's cover work is immediately arresting, the tight framing and crosshatched detail giving the image a gritty, cinematic weight that suits the "Odd Transformations" chapter title perfectly. At 1987 prices and deep into its ambitious run, this issue is a fine example of the series' willingness to let a single powerful image do all the talking.
