Cerebus #292
This July 2003 installment of Dave Sim and Gerhard's long-running epic presents one of the series' most quietly affecting images: an aged, white-robed Cerebus standing small before an enormous, ornate high-backed chair, his back to us as he gazes toward a curtained window. The contrast between the massive quilted chair and the diminutive aardvark conveys a sense of solitude and reflection that defines the "Latter Days" chapter of his life. Sim and Gerhard's collaborative craftsmanship — his linework alongside Gerhard's richly rendered interior backgrounds — gives the scene a warmth and melancholy that draws you straight into issue #292.
