Cerebus #230

Cerebus #230 continues the "Rick's Story" arc with a cover by Dave Sim and Gerhard that frames the aardvark in a wonderfully compact vignette — rendered as a hanging tavern sign, Cerebus clutches what appears to be a bundled sack, looking wide-eyed and a little wary against the warm tan backdrop. The large ghosted "RC" letters dominating the lower half of the cover give the whole composition a quietly atmospheric, almost architectural feel that suits Sim and Gerhard's meticulous world-building perfectly. A fine 1998 chapter in one of independent comics' most ambitious long-form narratives.
